It was a technical striking affair between the two to start off the first round, with Johnson pushing the pace and Guillard throwing counter-punches. Johnson showed was frustrated with the his opponent’s inactivity but perhaps Guillard was adopting a more patient and methodical approach. Johnson had a couple of takedown attempt too, although Guillard stuffed them rather easily.

Striking battle ensues in the second round, with Johnson continuing to work his shots from the outside. Guillard, meanwhile, continued to be patient and preferred counter-punches. Johnson, though, had a huge flurry at the end of the round that had Guillard momentarily stunned. The Blackzilians’ native was arguably two rounds up by now.

Johnson landed a takedown early on in round three but Guillard quickly recovered and got back to his feet. Johnson continued to tag Guillard multiple times with his fantastic timing and crisp punches. He even capitalized on a couple of onslaughts on Guillard, but was unfortunately unable to put him off.

Final Result: Michael Johnson def. Melvin Guillard via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
