Daniel Cormier has been linked to several possible match-ups over the past week. The latest rumor had him facing Dan Henderson at UFC 175. That rumor turned out to be valid, only with an intriguing clause to it.
Daniel Cormier vs Dan Henderson set for UFC 175 with higher stakes
It was announced on UFC Tonight that the winner would be the number one contender, after Alexander Gustafsson receives his title shot. Despite being 1-3 in his last four bouts, Henderson will have another opportunity to fight for the light heavyweight title that he has coveted since returning to the UFC in 2011. He is coming off a devastating knockout of Mauricio Rua, who he had beaten already to earn a title shot back in 2011. After a serious knee injury and a few disappointing performances, Henderson is now in line to earn back what was rightfully his back in 2012.
Meanwhile Cormier is coming off a dominant victory over Patrick Cummins at UFC 170 in his light heavyweight debut. After beating several big names in the heavyweight division from Josh Barnett to Frank Mir, it has been long overdue for him to be in position to fight for a title. This will be the last obstacle in earning that shot. He is expected to be a heavy favorite going into this fight. UFC 175 will be headlined by Chris Weidman defending his middleweight title against Lyoto Machida.
