Fabricio Werdum proved to the masses at UFC on FOX 11 that he wasn’t an underdog against Travis Browne by a long shot.
Werdum also etched a bit of history on the night as he became just the first fighter to land a successful takedown on Travis Browne.
Both fighters constantly threatened one another with either a high kick or a punch, but they were always able to just get out of the way.
Werdum had a strong showing in the first three rounds, scoring points off his takedowns with control from top position, as well as slick striking combinations on his feet.
By the second round, Browne looked tired and fatigued as he continued to eat shot after shot.
Eventually, after 25 hard fought minutes, Browne’s face was a bloody mess and it was clear who the winner was. Werdum deservedly scooped the judges’ scorecards with the scores 49-46, 50-45 and 50-45.
With the victory, Werdum now finds himself in a heavyweight title fight expected to take place later this year in Mexico against reigning champ, Cain Velasquez.
Final Result: Fabricio Werdum def. Travis Browne via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)
