Obviously due to my injury, April hasn’t been as eventful as recent months have been. Spending lots of time indoors and daily trips to the hospital for cleanings. The time off has really made me realize how much I enjoy and miss the fighter lifestyle. Training 2-3 times a day, eating clean, preparing for fights, and being physically fit. It’s been 4-weeks since my accident and I am just starting to get back to weight training. Luckily I was in such good shape prior to the accident that it helped my body heal a lot faster than usual, and I am now pretty much all healed up – aside from a few minor things keeping me from getting back in the gym and back to my routine.
I’m glad I’ve still been able to be a part of the team while injured, by running the conditioning program for my team mates Mark Abelardo and John Vake during their training camps leading up to PRO FC 9 in Taiwan. This is a huge opportunity for them on a big stage and seeing how they push themselves harder each practice proves they realize it and plan to capitalize on it. Leaving me with no doubt that they will dominate.
Prior to my accident I had just got back from Hua Hin earlier this month where I won my second fight here in Thailand by 2nd round tko, improving my record to 4-0. This was huge for me because I had trained the hardest I ever have for this fight and the first time I made any kind of real game plan. Having it work out perfectly and executing specific things I had been working on with my coaches was an amazing feeling.
I also have been focusing on lining up future fights, to keep my schedule full for when I’m back training full time. I’m hoping to get on a future CMFC card sometime in the next couple of months, and am currently the first alternate for any of the 8 fighters competing in the Rebel FC Featherweight tournament August 1st. I’m also happy to announce that I will be flying back home to Canada to fight for the promotion I’ve spent most of my career. I will be the main event for Battlefield Fight League 32 at the River Rock Casino in Richmond August 23rd.
Earlier this week there was a big earthquake that hit Thailand that measured to a 6.0. This was quite the experience for me having never felt a serious earthquake before, it felt like something out of a movie. The building I was in started to sway and pictures along with wall tiles were falling and breaking on the ground. Luckily there was no major damage done, and no serious injuries.
I would like to thank Team Quest for the opportunity, MMASucka for letting me blog, and my friends and family for continued support. Check back next month as I will be back training and have lots to talk about!
