Wrestling and ground control was all Jared Rosholt needed to pull out of his bag of tools as the American dominated Soa Palelei for a Unanimous Decision victory on Friday night in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 43.
UFC Fight Night 43 Results: Jared Rosholt upsets Soa Palelei
Palelei scored a takedown early, but Rosholt fought it off with ease, and sought after a single-leg takedown of his own. As the round progressed, the fight took place up against the fence without much activity from both fighters. Rosholt did, however, secure a close Arm-Triangle choke attempt towards the end of the frame. He even took Palelei’s back in the process, but with just 10 seconds left, Palelei reversed and got to full mount, unable though, to rain down his trademark ground-and-pound to full effect.
Rosholt had the fight where he wanted once again early in the second round after a string of uppercuts forced Palelei onto the mat. The latter fighter got back to his feet but soon enough, Rosholt pressured him in the clinch , forcing him to render no amount of offense at all.
Palelei struggled even further in the final stanza, as Rosholt continued to garner great success with his wrestling and top control.
Rosholt cruised towards a Unanimous Decision victory in the end, with a trio of 30-27 scores on the judges’ scorecards. It’s well worth noting this was the first time Palelei made it to the distance in his career as well.
Final Result: Jared Rosholt def. Soa Palelei via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
