Longtime PXC veteran Russell Doane had a fine fight in Las Vegas, where his superior takedowns provided the cutting edge as he pin-pointed Marcus Brimage for a split decision call on Saturday night’s UFC 175 main card’s opener on pay-per-view.
Doane took an early 10-9 lead on the scorecards threatening his American counterpart with multiple Rear-Naked Choke attempts, only for Brimage to thwart them and get the fight back to their feet once again.
Brimage’s chances were slightly dim, although he did have his moments in the stand-up department, where he repeatedly tagged Doane’s leg with well-timed kicks.
It wasn’t enough to convince the judges that he deserved the final call though, as Doane nicked it 29-28, 28-29, 30-27 on the scorecards to stretch his UFC record to 2-0.
Final Result: Russell Doane def. Marcus Brimage via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27)
