A severely jacked up toe did little to sway TUF: 17 alumnus Uriah Hall from a Unanimous Decision triumph over Brazil’s Thiago Santos at UFC 175 on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Hall suffered the injury in the first stanza, after delivering leg kicks repetitively in his efforts to neutralize Santos’ striking game.
The aftermath of his injury was evident in the second round, though, as Hall began fighting warily on his feet. That, however, did not prevent the Queens, New York native from throwing kicks with his injured foot. Instead, despite being on the receiving end of shots from his opponent, Hall persisted with kicks of his own from both feet.
He eventually did enough in the judges’ eyes, garnering a 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 tally.
“Every move, I would feel my bone shift in and out of my skin,” Hall said, in his post-fight interview in the octagon.
When queried on his broken toe, Hall replied, “I was brought up that if life knocks you down, you get back up and say, ‘You hit like a b-tch!'”
Final Result: Uriah Hall def. Thiago Santos via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
