Jamie Varner vs. Drew Dober is the first fight to be announced for UFC on FOX 13, the next FOX card taking place in December.
UFC officials announced the bout on Wednesday afternoon.
Jamie Varner vs. Drew Dober first fight set for UFC on FOX 13 in Phoenix
Varner (21-10), has lost 3 fights straight to almost ranked lightweight fighters, most recently suffering an ankle injury in his bout with James Krause at UFC 173 in the opening bout of the main card. The former WEC champion was unable to continue after the first round, Krause officially winning via TKO. Prior to that, he was knocked out by Abel Trujillo at UFC 169 earlier this year in a ‘Fight of the Night’ effort.
Dober (14-6), is on a two fight losing streak, and has not had a win in the UFC. He has lost to Sean Spencer and Nick Hein, both by decision, in the past year. His last win came against Tony Sims in Prize Fighting Championship, via split decision. Both fighters are in a must win situation or could be receiving a pink slip from the promotion.
UFC on FOX 13 marks the fourth and final FOX card of the year, and takes place at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ on Dec. 13. It is expected to air on FOX with preliminary fights either on FOX Sports 1 or FOX. No other bouts have been announced for the event, but Cub Swanson vs. Frankie Edgar has been rumored to be a possible headline for the event, but it is not even close to being finalized.
