Nick Diaz might not have fought in eighteen months, but he is managing to keep himself in the headlines – unfortunately, this time it’s for the wrong reasons.
At 2:20am on September 6th, Diaz was arrested on suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer destruction of evidence and driving with a suspended license. This comes just a few weeks after Diaz finally posted bail on his December 12th 2013 DUI charge after missing several court dates.
The UFC released a very short statement Friday night which said: “We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering the facts. We understand that there is a legal process that will now take place and that Nick Diaz will have the opportunity to address the situation in the near future.”
Marc Raimondi at Fox Sports has all the details of the incident – Diaz attempted to vomit in the police station and officers believed he was trying to get the alcohol out of his system, hence the destruction of evidence and obstructing an officer charges.
Diaz’ lawyer released a statement saying: “Nick and I have discussed the current charges. He is very sorry he has disappointed his fans, friends and family. Nick wants to take the opportunity to thank all his fans who have immediately reached out to him for unconditional support.”
