Now, for those of us over the legal drinking age, alcoholic beverages are often a necessary accoutrement when watching a UFC pay-per-view event. However, with such a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits available, it can sometimes be difficult to choose something that may really fit the event. That can leave you relying on the “same old same old,” or – even worse – cheap, bad beer. We here at MMASucka don’t want to see that happen to you, though. That’s why we’re bringing you a brand new, PPV-week series to help ensure that you have quality drinks for watching (hopefully) quality fights, inspired by a fighter on the card.
This week, we have UFC 178, currently headlined by a Flyweight Title bout between the champ, Demetrious Johnson, and #6-ranked Chris Cariaso. Since Johnson hails from Washington State, a hotbed of craft brewing, that made this inaugural edition at once easy and difficult. It had to be a beer, but with so many quality products coming from that state, it was tough to narrow it down. What I decided on was Elysian Brewing’s Loser Pale Ale, a crisp, medium-bodied offering done in collaboration with long-time Seattle record label Sub-Pop. With its combination of 3 different malts and both Sorachi Ace & Crystal hops, this amber-colored ale hits just the right spots with a taste that hints at the tropical. This 7% ABV stunner can be found in 6 bottle packs or in individual “bomber”-sized bottles, depending on your preferences.
For the “TL;DR” crowd, here’s how Loser stacks up on the Tale of the Tape.
