The Irishman is back, and not fighting for UFC gold.
Conor McGregor, the hyped Irish featherweight was said to be possibly fighting the winner of Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes, which takes place this Saturday at UFC 179, but that is not the case. McGregor vs. Dennis Siver is rumored for a Boston event in January 2015, but there’s no done deals, yet.
Conor McGregor vs Dennis Siver targeted for Boston event in January
MMAjunkie reported the rumored matchup on Thursday.
McGregor (16-2) is 4-0 in the UFC and is coming off of a stunning first round knockout victory over then-Top 5 featherweight Dustin Poirier, which launched him into the Top 5, taking Poirier’s place, at UFC 178. Prior to that, he headlined an event in Dublin, where he knocked Diego Brandao out, also in the first round.
Siver (22-9) is coming off a FOTN affair earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 53 against Charles Rosa, where he defeated him by decision in an entertaining fight. A win over McGregor will launch him into title contention, for sure.
The Boston event takes place on Jan. 18, 2015, and will likely be Fight Night 59 or 60. One other rumored fight for the card is Donald Cerrone vs. Myles Jury, in a lightweight tilt.
