A lightweight bout has been added to the highly anticipated pay-per-view event, UFC 182, as Rustam Khabilov takes on Danny Castillo in early January.
Rustam Khabilov vs Danny Castillo set for UFC 182
The @UFCNews Twitter account confirmed the matchup on Wednesday night, but it was first rumored on the Oct. 1 episode of ‘UFC Tonight’.
Khabilov (17-2) fought only one time in 2014, which was a loss to former champion Benson Henderson, but that wasn’t much of a setback for the Top 15 fighter. Prior to that, last year, he defeated Yancy Medeiros and Jorge Masvidal in April and November, respectively.
Castillo (17-7) started this year off with a highlight reel knockout against Charlie Brenneman at UFC 172 in April, but lost a close split decision to Tony Ferguson in the co-main event of UFC 177.
The bout placement of the fight is currently unknown, but the FOX Sports 1 preliminary card is most likely.
UFC 182 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Jan. 3, 2015. It is headlined by the long-awaited Light Heavyweight Championship bout between champ Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.
