Dallas gets a huge heavyweight battle as heavy hitters Alistair Overeem and Roy Nelson are set to do battle at UFC 185.
Dallas Morning News were the first to announce the news on Tuesday night.
Overeem (38-14) entered the UFC in December of 2011 with a lot of hype behind him. He stopped and retired former champion Brock Lesnar before dropping two fights to Antonio Silva and Travis Browne, both by knockout. He then rebounded with a win over Frank Mir before once again getting derailed by knockout, this time at the hands of ‘Big’ Ben Rothwell. In his latest outing he stopped fellow Dutchmen Stefan Struve in the first round back in December.
Nelson (20-10) is a BJJ black belt known for his knockout ability. 7-6 since joining the UFC after winning The Ultimate Fighter in 2009, all seven of his victories have come by way of knockout. In his last outing he lost to Mark Hunt via knockout in round three. This was the second time Nelson has been finished, and first time in the UFC. Prior to this loss he knocked Minotauro Nogueira out in the first round at UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi in April of 2014.
The bouts placement on the card has not been announced, but it in all likelihood will take place on the PPV portion of the card.
UFC 185 is set to take place on March 13 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center. The main event will be a lightweight title fight between Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis and Rafael dos Anjos.
