Henry Cejudo returns to flyweight, fights Chris Cariaso at UFC 185

Indiscutido reported the matchup first but UFC officials confirmed it later.

Cejudo (7-0) made his anticipated promotional debut last year and instantly became one of the top prospects of the year, if not the ‘Prospect of the Year’ following his stunning decision win against Dustin Kimura at UFC on FOX 13.  One of the few Olympic gold medalists in the UFC, Cejudo will likely be going into the bout with Cariaso as the favourite despite having less experience.  The fight will be taking place in the flyweight division, despite his debut being at 135-pounds.  Cejudo was supposed to debut at UFC 177 at 125-pounds but failed to make weight and was forced to move up, but following the win against Kimura UFC President Dana White allowed him to move down again.

Cariaso (17-6) is coming off a loss to UFC flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson in the headliner of UFC 178 in September.  Prior to that he was riding a three-fight winning streak, including wins over Louis Smolka and Danny Martinez last year.  He’ll be looking to derail the hype train of Cejudo.

The card placement for this bout is unknown at the time.

UFC 185 takes place live from the American Airways Center in Dallas on March 14.  In the main event, Anthony Pettis will attempt to defend his lightweight title for the second time against number one contender Raphael dos Anjos.
