An unfortunate bout of pneumonia has forced Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza out of his UFC 184 middleweight bout with Yoel Romero.

UFC officials announced the illness on Thursday evening and stated that the bout would be rescheduled at an upcoming event.

‘Jacare’ (21-3) proved he deserves a title shot when he finished Gegard Mousasi in the main event of UFC Fight Night 50 in September.  Prior to that, he was victorious against ex-UFC fighter Francis Carmont earlier this year.  Elbow injuries have kept him relatively inactive this year, but he still managed to fight twice in the Octagon, taking his UFC record to 4-0.

Romero (9-1) is also undefeated inside the Octagon, and most recently picked up the biggest win of his career when he finished Tim Kennedy at UFC 178 in September.  In 2014, he also defeated Derek Brunson and Brad Tavares, launching him close to the top of the division.

UFC 184 takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on Feb. 28, 2015.  The event is headlined by Weidman vs. Belfort and co-headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano for the women’s bantamweight strap.
