Do you smell what “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey is cooking, you “jabroni”?!

The Toss Heard Around the World at Wrestlemania 31

In a move that most definitely solidified her as the most popular UFC champion on the planet; UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (11-0-0) delivered a spectacular beat-down at Wrestlemania 31.  After attending the event with the self-proclaimed “Four Horsewomen” of Mixed Martial arts (Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir), Rousey jumped the guardrail after Stephanie McMahon delivered a brow-beating to fan favourite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to “layeth the smackdown”.

Putting the fictionalized authority figures in their places with a thunderous judo toss delivered to McMahon’s husband, “Triple H” Paul Levesque, Ronda Rousey legitimized her superstardom with millions of WWE fans. Adding style and substance to a contrived world of dramatized tension is not easy after 31 years. “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey did it. She re-invented her brash and hard-nosed personality that MMA fans expected and turned it into sports entertainment. She ascended heights that other poster boys with world tours will not; she became a household name.

Social media was awash with references to Wrestlemania 31 before, during and after the event. Many within the mixed martial arts community, including well-known superstars such as Daniel Cormier, were hip to the event. The tension of the unknown before a fight is always the most exciting part. That raw emotion is what keeps fans of “Professional Wrestling” invested in the product. That’s what all the parties involved in promoting MMA bouts should know inside and out. That’s why Conor McGregor talks you into the building. That’s the kind of emotion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey just injected into her public persona. That’s why her star can only rise.

After a street fight in Rio de Janeiro, death threats on Twitter, A relentless media campaign and a Wrestlemania appearance; how can Bethe Correia versus Ronda Rousey at UFC 190 not be one of the biggest fights of the year? Either way, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey has stardom that is not going away.
