UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier looks to have his next fight lined up and it’s not who you think it would be. Fans expected Ryan Bader to be DC’s next opponent, especially after their heated confrontation at the UFC 187 post-fight press conference. On Wednesday evening it was announced that it won’t be Bader and in fact, the UFC is looking at Alexander Gustafsson getting the next shot.

UFC President Dana White made the announcement on FOX Sports 1’s UFC Tonight.

“We’re actually looking at possibly Alexander Gustafsson,” White said.

Gustafsson (16-3) is coming off a loss to Anthony Johnson at UFC on FOX 14. The Swede was expected to take on Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 69, however a training injury forced him off the card.

Cormier (16-1) claimed UFC gold at UFC 187, where he beat down Johnson and earned the submission stoppage in the third round. This victory not only put the belt around his waist, but also bounced him back into the win column, after losing to former champ Jon Jones.

According to UFC Tonight, no date or venue have been targeted for this match-up.
