In a fight that may very well be the closest the UFC may ever see to a kaiju battle, Josh Barnett took on Roy Nelson in a clash of heavyweight behemoths. While many expected an early finish, it was not to be as both men surprised with unusual strategies. “Big Country” shocked first, hitting Barnett with a couple of takedowns in the initial stanza. “The Warmaster” would battle back, backing Nelson up against the cage wall and battering him in the clinch. This was as fast paced as a heavyweight fight could be reasonably expected, and even saw the Nelson land a headkick in the second round. The strategies invoked by Roy Nelson were no match for Barnett’s phone booth fight tactics, as the former UFC Heavyweight Champion was able to dominate his way to a unanimous decision victory.
