UFC 199 has a pair of championship bouts set, as UFC Middleweight Champion Luke Rockhold will look to keep the belt around his waist against Chris Weidman in the main event. In the evening’s co-main event a trilogy fight will go down, as UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz takes on bitter rival Urijah Faber.
The two bouts were announced at the UFC “Unstoppable” press conference in Las Vegas.
Rockhold (15-2) is riding a five fight winning streak, including a fourth round TKO victory to capture the 185-pound belt against Weidman at UFC 194. Weidman (13-1) was handed his first career loss to Weidman. Prior to that bout, Weidman had defended his strap three times, including victories over Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort.
Cruz (21-1) recaptured his UFC Bantamweight Championship when he defeated T.J. Dillashaw in a five round war at UFC Fight Night 81. “The Dominator” is currently riding a twelve fight winning streak dating back to 2008. Faber (33-8) was undefeated in non-title bouts up until his decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 66. Most recently, “The California Kid” beat Frankie Saenz at UFC 194 in December. Cruz and Faber have fought twice before, with Faber winning the first bout at WEC 26 in 2007 and Cruz winning the rematch at UFC 132 in 2011.
UFC 199 goes down on June 4 from The Forum in Los Angeles, California.
