Brennan Ward Withdraws from Bellator 207 with Injury

Bellator 207 received another cut from the fight night roster Sunday. Promotion veteran, Brennan Ward is no longer competing in his home state Connecticut next month. First reported by MMAJunkie, Ward suffered an undisclosed injury during preparation for his fight against Andre Fialho.

Brennan Ward Withdraws from Bellator 207

With a little over 30 days between the withdrawal and the event itself, a replacement opponent for Fialho is unclear at the moment.  Fialho like Ward hasn’t competed for a significant portion of time. The Portuguese fighter last competed at Bellator 181 where he defeated AJ Matthews by split decision.

Unfortunate Injuries

Wards withdrawal ahead of Bellator 207 is the second consecutive injury withdrawal of his career. While preparing for David Rickels prior to Bellator 185, Ward suffered an injury forcing his withdrawal from the event. The most recent action on the record of the Connecticut fighter comes from August 2017, Bellator 182. There Ward fell to Fernando Gonzalez by way of third-round submission to a guillotine choke.

The loss finalized a rough campaign which began in 2016. After his return from Japan and the Rizin organization, Ward fought four bouts for Bellator. In that span, he earned a record of 1-3. His three losses all came by way of stoppage, two by submission and one by knockout.

Bellator 207

Bellator 207 brings back both fighters from Mohegan Sun’s quarterfinal round of the Heavyweight Grand Prix. Matt Mitrione and Roy Nelson return to Connecticut as Mitrione attempts to advance to the Grand Prix finals. Mitrione takes on Ryan Bader in the main event, while Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson takes on Sergei Kharitonov. An exciting main card matchup features Lorenz Larkin against Erick Silva. Other featured fights include New England MMA veteran, Sean Lally vs. Kemran Lachinov and Tim Caron vs. Reginaldo Fenix.
