The UFC returns to Moscow, Russia for UFC Fight Night 163. Originally, a heavyweight fight between Alexander Volkov and Junior dos Santos was scheduled for the main event. However, dos Santos would be forced to pull out of the fight with an injury. This pushed the featherweight co-main event into the new main event slot.
The new main event now features two exciting featherweight prospects as Zabit Magomedsharipov faces Calvin Kattar. Magomedsharipov has now lost a fight since 2013 and will be looking for his 14th straight win against Kattar. His most recent fight came at UFC 235 in March when he defeated Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision. Kattar enters the fight fresh off back-to-back TKO finishes. The most recent of those came in June at UFC 238 when he finished Ricardo Lamas in one round. Both men look to inch closer to a title shot at the talent stacked featherweight division with a win.
Alexander Volkov stays on the card after his main event opponent pulled out, as he pulls Greg Hardy on short notice in the co-main event. Volkov has not fought since UFC 229 in 2018 when he suffered a knockout loss to Derrick Lewis in the fight’s closing seconds. He will look to rebound from that loss with a win over Hardy, who is 2-1, !NC since entering the UFC in January. Hardy’s most recent fight came at UFC on ESPN 6 when he faced Ben Sosoli. Hardy would win the fight by unanimous decision, however due to his use of an inhaler between rounds, the fight was overturned to a no-contest. Hardy looks to earn the biggest win of his UFC career if he can defeat the seventh ranked Volkov.
