7,916 days. That is the number of days old Maycee Barber will be on Saturday, January 18, 2019, when she takes to the cage for UFC 246. Jon Jones won UFC gold for the first time at UFC 128 with an age of 8,644 days. The difference is 728 days, just two days shy of two full years on Barber’s “clock.”

Chasing a Legacy

Barber has made it known since entering the UFC, her goal is to become the youngest champion in the organization’s storied history. After earning her way into the UFC via The Contender Series, Barber has gone on a three-fight TKO streak. With a win over Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246, Barber would find herself on the shortlist of contenders for a flyweight title shot.

Coming off of a loss in July 2019, Modafferi will look to get back into the win column and derail Barber’s hopes of achieving Barber’s goal. In her last six bouts, Modafferi has alternated wins and losses. The last time Modafferi has been finished was in October 2011 which will make for an interesting challenge for Barber who has finished everyone she has entered the Octagon with.

Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is scheduled to take on Katlyn Chookagian in February 2020 so a win but put Barber in the talks as the next contender. Barber is currently number nine in the UFC women’s flyweight rankings while Modafferi is number seven. But with nearly two years still on the “clock” there is time for Barber to continue to ascend the ranks and break Jones’ record of becoming the youngest champion in UFC history.
