There was talk of a match-up between the number two ranked bantamweight Aljamain Sterling and the man sitting at number four in the division Cory Sandhagen.

TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter first reported the possible May 16 bout.

With the world in dismay due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the UFC was forced to postpone a number of their upcoming fight cards. On Tuesday morning, Sterling took to Twitter to squash the rumors.

Aljamain Sterling says “there is no fight announcement”

“We’ve spoken about a few different opponents,” Sterling tweeted. “As far as I know there is no fight announcement, especially with all this chaos happening.

“I don’t even have access to my gym anymore. It’s been a complete ban for everyone and you guys think I’m taking a fight? Yea, ok.”

Sterling (18-3) is currently riding a four-fight winning streak, dating back to 2018. Most recently, “Funkmaster” earned a unanimous decision victory over Pedro Munhoz at UFC 238 in June 2019.

Sandhagen (12-1) is unbeaten inside the Octagon. The 27-year-old made his UFC debut at the beginning of 2018 and has won five in a row. Sandhagen’s most recent outing, he earned a unanimous decision victory against perennial contender Raphael Assuncao at UFC 241.
