The world can’t stand the fact that Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is not happening — again. Well, the man from Dagestan is not to blame and he is making that crystal clear.
The match-up between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson was supposed to go down at UFC 249 on April 18, however due to the corona virus pandemic, the likelihood of it happening is all but squashed.
On Wednesday, Nurmagomedov took to Instagram to release a statement regarding the match-up and the safety of the world.
Nurmagomedov was in the United States training at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, but upon learning that the fight would not be happening in the U.S. he decided to fly overseas to Abu Dhabi.
Russian borders closed
In an Instagram live video, “The Eagle” stated that he had learned that the borders to Russia were about to be closed.
“Currently, I am in Dagestan and I am training and preparing every day, although I don’t know what am I preparing for, because after we came to Russia we also learned that the borders are going to be locked,” he said.
Despite the main event not going down as planned, UFC President Dana White has gone on record that UFC 249 will be going down despite the world being asked to social distance from each other.
UFC 249 will take place from an undisclosed location and many have stepped up to face Ferguson on short notice, including Jorge Masvidal, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje.
In a recent episode of the Couch Warrior Podcast, host Mike welcomed Charalampos Grigoriou, who recently won a contract during season 7 of Dana White's Contender Series after knocking out Cameron Smotherman one minute into the fight. The conversation delved into Grigoriou's martial arts journey, his feelings on representing Cyprus and Greece, and future plans.
