Dominick Cruz returns at UFC 249 and will vie for the bantamweight title, as he goes toe to toe with Henry Cejudo. The UFC 249 Countdown dives deep into the training camp and lead-up to the Cejudo vs. Cruz match-up.

Cejudo was originally supposed to face Jose Aldo at UFC 249, but due to Visa issues, Cruz stepped in as a replacement.

Cejudo vs. Cruz for bantamweight gold

Cejudo (15-2) is a two-division champion, winning the flyweight title in a very close split decision against Demetrious Johnson at UFC 227. He went on to defend that championship against T.J. Dillashaw at UFC on ESPN+1 before moving up to 135-pounds. In his most recent outing, Cejudo finished Marlon Moraes in decisive fashion to be crowned bantamweight king.

Cruz (22-2) was the bantamweight king for some time, before losing the gold at UFC 207 in 2016. That loss to Cody Garbrandt was the last time we saw “The Dominator” inside the octagon. He has been honing his microphone skills as a commentator, but after a three-year hiatus has decided it’s time to strap on the UFC gloves again.

UFC 249 goes down on May 9 from Jacksonville, Florida. The main event is a battle for the interim UFC lightweight championship, as former interim titleholder, Tony Ferguson faces the always dangerous Justin Gaethje.
