Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will once again put his championship on the line in a clash with Justin Gaethje on October 24, in a yet to be determined location. Dana White made the announcement to CNN.
Dana White breaks news on CNN
“It’s going to happen. I’m telling you right here, it’s going to happen. The fight is going to happen. Khabib versus Gaethje October 24”, said Dana White to CNN. Some are speculating that the fight will take place on Fight Island, but there has been no confirmation that a location has been selected.
There have been rumors and speculation that Khabib Nurmagomedov could in fact retire from MMA after the death of his father. His father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov passed away at the age of 57 due to complications with COVID-19 in Moscow on July 3. It was a major blow to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Dana White spoke about the loss. “His father was a hero to him. He loved his father. They had a very, very close relationship, and it was very hard on him.”
Justin Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 to earn the number one contender’s spot and book his fight with Nurmagomedov. The victory was Gaethje’s fourth consecutive since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2018.
Nurmagomedov is a perfect 28-0. He last defeated Dustin Poirier via Rear Naked Choke at UFC 248. Nurmagomedov is a machine in the cage, and his wrestling is otherworldly. His striking is good enough to be safe until he brings the fight into his realm, the canvas. He just smothers his opponents and saps the life from him. He’s not just good, he’s dominant.
The title fight is set to headline UFC 255. So far it is the only announced fight on the card. Oddsmakers have already released preliminary odds, and Nurmagomedov is the betting favorite.
