Contract Recipients: Aliaskhab Khizriev, Drako Rodriguez, Phil Hawes, Tafon Nchukwi

Tafon Nchukwi def. Al Matavao at 2:01

Feedback: Both guys came out rockem/sockem robot style and threw some big shots. Matavao was more active, and lept in a lot, throwing wild shots. He did however manage to land fairly often and probably outscored Nchuckwi. Matavao was cut towards the end of the round to the left eye. I scored the round for Al Matavao.

Matavao came out fast and furious but ate some big counter shots and really started to tire. Nchukwi started landing the bigger shots. The end came when Tafon Nchukwi landed an enormous left high kick that knocked Al Matavao out cold. He was down for quite some time. I’m sure Nchukwi will get a contract.

Sherrard Blackledge def. Cameron Church via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27)

Feedback: Good action early on as the fighters engaged in a striking battle. Church landed more strikes and twice Blackledge secured takedowns to slow down the onslaught. Good round, plenty of back and forth. Hard to score with the striking edge to Church and the takedowns for Blackledge.

The second round saw high output striking by both fighters. Sharrard Blackledge started finding his range and took over the round. The fighters exchanged low blows and both required time to recover. Sharrard Blackledge managed to score another takedown and fought off an armbar attempt. Blackledge scored another takedown and undoubtedly won the second round. Could be even or Blackledge could be up 2-0.

Blackledge scored a takedown after a brief standing exchange. Blackledge maintained top control and passed the guard holding Cameron Church in place. While both fighters had their moments and Blackledge has looked solid in controlling the action, it might not be enough to warrant a contract from Dana White. Especially with how exciting the opening three fights were. Blackledge will win a decision here.

Phil Hawes def. Khadzhimurat Bestaev via TKO (Punches) at 1:18 of Round 1

Feedback: Phil Hawes came out and landed some low calf kicks and worked behind a steady series of strikes. Bestaev had a moment of checking the kick and landing an overhead right, but moments later Hawes landed a single overhand right that dropped Bestaev. He followed it up with some ground shots, but the fight was all over at that point. Three consecutive first-round finishes tonight. Everyone gets a contract at this rate.

Drako Rodriguez def. Mana Martinez via Submission (Guillotine Choke) at 2:22 of Round 1

Feedback: Another fight ends in the first round via submission. After a brief exchange standing that Drako Rodriguez was clearly winning, there was a takedown. Mana went for an Omaplata, but Drako Rodriguez rolled into a choke and forced the finish as Mana Martinez went to sleep. Drako was really personable after the fight and should get himself a contract and factor in the bantamweight division.

Aliaskhab Khizriev def. Henrique Shiguemoto via Sub (Rear Naked Choke) at 0:50 of Round 1

Feedback: Second fastest submission in Dana White Contender Series history. The fight hit the mat right off the bat and it took very little time for Khizriev to lock up the Rear-Naked Choke and submit Henrique Shigumoto. Give that man a contract!
