The #1 pound-for-pound fighter in Glory Kickboxing headlined LFA 95 in his fourth professional MMA bout. Alex Pereira defeated Thomas Powell at 4:04 of the very first round. Improving his MMA record to 3-1, Pereira threw a hellacious check left hook that left Powell face-first on the canvas. In the ensuing moments, it became very alarming when Powell appeared to be unresponsive for quite some time. Thankfully, Powell was able to walk off on his own after 10 or so minutes in the cage.
Alex Pereira Shines at LFA 95
Pereira stands at 6 feet 4 inches tall and his height and long limbs were on display in the first round. Pereira attempted multiple right high kicks throughout the fight and faced a moment of adversity. After throwing a spinning heel kick, Powell attemped a takedown against the fence. “Poatan” seemed very comfortable in the exchange and remained calm in the clinch. It was brief, but Pereira was able to withstand the attack and get back on the offensive. If he continues to pursue MMA, the main concern will be his grappling as he competes against higher competition.
Return to Glory
Per Glory’s official twitter page, Pereira is expected to return to Glory with news of a fight coming soon. Glory returns with their first event since the pandemic on December 19th. The future of the organization was in question, and many wonder if they’ll be able to recover in 2021. A possible super-fight that fans are starting to clamor for may help once fans are able to return.
Badr Hari headlines the event on the 19th and could be a potential opponent for Alex Pereira. Hari is a kickboxing legend and Periera is the most dominant fighter there is in the promotion. Hari has an astonishing record of 106-15 with 1 no contest. Pereira is 41-6 and on an 8-fight win streak in Glory. Hari has unfortunately been injured in his past two title fights in Glory against Rico Verhoeven. Hari and Verhoeven broke the attendance record in the Netherlands for their bout at Glory Collision 2.
