At UFC Vegas 20, Ashley Yoder will get a chance at redemption against a former opponent in Angela Hill. In their first bout, Hill got the better of Yoder on the feet as well as in the clinch. However, Yoder showed how scrappy she is with some vicious submission attempts even while standing. The action kicks off this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. In addition to this staple strawweight affair, the night will cap off with heavyweights, Jairzinho Rozenstruik taking on rising contender Ciryl Gane.
Angela Hill vs. Ashley Yoder – Breakdown
While Yoder is coming off a win to Miranda Granger back in November, Hill’s 2020 season was busy, but a tad inconsistent. Even though she racked up wins over solid competition like Hannah Cifers and Loma Lookboonmee, the strawweight struggled against highly ranked competition. The active Hill lost to Cláudia Gadelha in a rematch, but the fight was much closer than the results would suggest. Additionally, the mobile striker faced top-ranked Michelle Waterson, and once again fell short albeit in a controversial loss. Coming as a bit of surprise, Waterson was able to outwit Hill on the feet with sidekicks that even reached the face of Hill despite “Karate Hottie”‘s small size.

Granted, Yoder is coming off a win, she has not seen the type of competition Hill has recently. Even with the unsteady climate of Covid-19, her chance to win this one back is well-within her grasp. The 33-year old strawweight has a vicious ground game and knows how to crank submissions from awkward positions. Demonstrated in the first fight with Hill, Yoder’s nickname “Spider Monkey” is an apt description of her abilities–once she latches on it’s a pain to get her off.
Angela Hill Looking To Rebound
In a stylistic clash, Hill will look to pick Yoder apart from the outside. With opposing skill sets, each are looking for their own path to domination. Hill has the edge considering she has the blueprint on how to beat Yoder, yet Yoder’s unpredictability in grappling exchanges gives credence to her chances, especially since she saw Gadelha use a similar wrestling-oriented strategy to beat Hill last May.
The action will get started this weekend. Don’t miss UFC Vegas 20 or this pivotal strawweight matchup with Angela Hill and Ashley Yoder!
