Eddie Alvarez will be back inside the ONE Championship Circle this Wednesday, April 28, at ONE on TNT IV with the motivation to make himself the top contender for Christian “The Warrior” Lee’s ONE Lightweight World Title.

“I don’t need him. He needs me to prove to the world that he can beat someone like me,” says Eddie Alvarez in a sit-down interview with ONE before he steps back into the primetime spotlight.

That play for the gold was what he was competing for at ONE on TNT I. However, an unfortunate set of circumstances led to a controversial finish against Iuri Lapicus.

With Alvarez still motivated to make a push for being the man to be next-up for Lee, ONE found a way to make it happen. At ONE on TNT III, #5-ranked contender Marat “Cobra” Gafurov and promotional newcomer Ok Rae Yoon battled with a meeting against Alvarez hanging in the balance.

The South Korean looked outstanding and got the win and now gets an opportunity against a legend.

It is Alvarez’s full intent to finish Ok and continue his ascent toward the top. The ONE title shot has proven to be elusive for the American, and it remains the only major promotional World Championship he has yet to claim.

Should he get the shot at Lee, it won’t be an easy match. The reigning king of the division continued to silence his doubters at ONE on TNT II. In the main event against Timofey Nastyukhin, the last man to defeat Eddie Alvarez, Lee stole the show with a highlight-reel knockout in the first round.

But that does not deter “The Underground King.”

“I don’t need to prove to anyone that I can beat someone like Christian Lee. I’ve beat a 100 of him,” says Alvarez.

The Philadelphian is the last piece to the ONE lightweight puzzle for “The Warrior” to conquer. He has defeated the five ranked athletes, but Alvarez has eluded him and would be one of the shining feathers in his cap.

It would be a matchup of legacies. Eddie Alvarez would be seeking to add the final World Championship to his collection, and Lee would be wanting to continue to build his by adding in one of the legends of the sport.

Alvarez has just one more hurdle to climb, and the surging South Korean is waiting to steal his thunder.
