This upcoming weekend will be UFC 265 Lewis vs. Gane broadcast live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, USA. Before we get the heavyweight main event showdown, we have two women strawweights re-matching and fighting for their place in this competitive division. Tecia Torres vs. Angela Hill 2 is a rematch from 2015, and six years later both are much more experienced than they were the first time.

Tecia Torres – 12-5-0

Making her debut in the UFC in 2014 as a member of the TUF 20 cast, Tecia Torres has made huge progress in her fight game and gained huge amounts of experience. In 2014 she moved from Invicta to the UFC with merely 4 fights and defeated Angela Hill in her 6th fight. Today, she is a veteran of 20 MMA fights total, including the exhibition bouts on TUF.

Torres has landed 1091 strikes in her UFC career, which is a record-holding fourth placement in women’s strawweight history. This is in addition to her 13 fights in this division which places her holding the third-place record in history. Torres has also gained massive experience with in-cage fight time as she has fought to a decision in 18 fights total.

Officially Torres is ranked 10th in UFC Women’s strawweight and is coming off a two-fight winning streak. In June of 2020, Torres defeated Brianna Van Buren and out-struck her opponent a whopping 111 to 37. Next Torres faced Sam Hughes. While this bout was stopped due to Doctor Stoppage (eye injury) at the end of the first round, Torres was still able to outwork her opponent landing 52 strikes to Hughes’ 26.

Angela Hill – 13-9-0

Since Angela Hill made her debut in the UFC 2014 she has become a staple of UFC events. She entered the UFC being a 1-0 MMA fighter, and today has had 17 fights in her UFC career total, for which she holds a women’s strawweight record for. When Angela Hill lost to Tecia Torres in 2015 she had only 2 professional MMA fights to her name.

After 17 fights in the UFC, she has gained massive in-cage experience. Total fight time for Angela Hill is 3:53:33, and total strikes landed of 1515. In both of these records, she is ranked at number 2 behind the former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Coming into her rematch with Tecia Torres, Angela Hill had just won her last bout against Ashley Yoder in March of this year. She out-struck Yoder 77 to 34. Before that Angela Hill had two closely fought decision losses, both were controversial. She had a three-round loss to Claudia Gadelha; a close fight in which Hill landed 93 strikes to Gadelha’s 92. Then she had a closely fought five-round decision loss to Michelle Waterson.

Tecia Torres vs. Angela Hill 2 at UFC 265

The Tiny Tornado vs Overkill, the two fought in 2014, and today, seven years on, the fight is entirely different and for different stakes. Angela Hill and Tecia Torres are much more experienced fighters than they were the first time they fought. Both have had long and hard fights, close losses, and huge in-cage time.

The two were originally set to rematch last December on UFC 256. But unfortunately, this bout had to be canceled as Angela Hill had tested positive for COVID-19. Torres had fought late replacement Hughes instead.

Torres is a Karate based fighter who marches forward on kicks and punches. Angela Hill is a Muay Thai-based fighter who blitzes with a volume of kicks, punches and knees. The strawweight division is much more competitive than it used to be, and these two are going to be fighting for their place in this division. Hill vs. Torres should make for a great fight, huge amounts of strikes, and a back and forth war at the UFC 265 main card.
