Now published online is the list of United States Anti-Doping Agency USADA violations by UFC fighters. Below lists out the length of their suspensions and what performance-enhancing drug (PED) the fighter was using. This list will discuss not only the USADA violations but also the specific effects of the illegal PED or banned substance is.

PED’s, Banned Substance Breakdowns, and UFC USADA Violations

7-keto-DHEA – Promotes weight loss via increase of metabolism and heat production in the body. According to RxList to 7-keto-DHEA is used to also “improve lean body mass and build muscle, increase the activity of the thyroid gland.”
USADA Violations: Raquel Pennington, Lyoto Machida
Punishment: 6 or 18-month Suspension

Androstenedione – Increases testosterone. An increase in testosterone will, according to WebMD, “enhance athletic performance, build muscle, reduce body fat, increase energy, keep red blood cells healthy.”
USADA Violations: Lyman Good, Justin Ledet
Punishment: 4 or 6 Month Suspension

Anastrozole – Estrogen blocker. Medical News Today says, ” Some bodybuilders use [Anastrozole] to control gynecomastia, which is a side effect of taking anabolic steroids. It causes males to grow breasts.”
USADA Violations: Vinicius Moreira Castro, Chase Sherman, Matheus Nicolau, CB Dollaway, Marcos Rogerio De Lima
Punishment: 6 Month Suspension to 2 Year Suspension

Androsta – Increases testosterone. An increase in testosterone will, according to WebMD, “enhance athletic performance, build muscle, reduce body fat, increase energy, keep red blood cells healthy.” Used frequently in the 1990s.
USADA Violations: Yaozong Hu
Punishment: 10 Month Suspension

Boldenone – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength. Not available for human consumption legally, used for horses and other farm animals. See USADA.org for more info.
USADA Violations: Bruno Arruda da Silva, Michel Prazeres, Ivan Shtyrkov, Azamat Murzakanov, Bharat Vijay Kandare
Punishment: 2-Year Suspension

CannabidiolCannabinoids, and Carboxy-THC – USADA lists these as a danger to the athlete using them due to changes in sensory and pain as well as, “slower reaction times and poor executive function or decision making.”
USADA Violations: Nate Diaz, Kelvin Gastelum, Alen Amedovski, Cynthia Calvillo, Diego Brandao
Punishment: 6 to 9 Month Suspension

Chlorine substituted anabolic steroidsChlorodehydromethyltestosterone, Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone, or Turinabol – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength.
USADA Violations: Jon Jones, Francisco Mir
Punishment: 15 Month Suspension or 2-Year Suspension

Clenbuterol – Medical News Today says Clenbuterol is “a decongestant thins the blood to reduce blood pressure while a bronchodilator widens the vessels that carry oxygen, so the volume of oxygen in the blood increases.”
USADA Violations: Francisco Rivera, and four other fighters with names redacted.
Punishment: 4-Year Suspension

Clomiphene – Increases testosterone and estrogen. An increase in testosterone will, according to WebMD, “enhance athletic performance, build muscle, reduce body fat, increase energy, keep red blood cells healthy.”
USADA Violations: Michał Oleksiejczuk, James Mulheron, Jesse Taylor, Nick Roehrick, George Sullivan, Brock Lesnar, Roman Dolidze, Jon Jones
Punishment: 1-Year Suspension

Cocaine – Substances of Abuse.
USADA Violations: Juancamilo Ronderos Alvis, Bradley Scott
Punishment: 1-Month to 2-Year Suspension

Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone – Increases testosterone. An increase in testosterone will, according to WebMD, “enhance athletic performance, build muscle, reduce body fat, increase energy, keep red blood cells healthy.”
USADA Violations: Jessica Penne
Punishment: 18-Month Suspension

Drostanolone – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength.
USADA Violations: Giacomo Frederico Salvador de Lemos, Khalid Murtazaliev, Alex Gorgees, Stefan Sekulic, Chi Lewis-Parry
Punishment: 16 Month to 2 Year Suspension

Erythropoietin (EPO) & rHuEPO- Blood Doping by stimulating the production of red blood cells which would increase oxygen to muscles, thus increase aerobic capacity.
USADA Violations: Gleison Tibau, TJ Dillashaw, Dmitrii Smoliakov
Punishment: 2-Year Suspension

Fentanyl – Narcotics. Substances of Abuse.
USADA Violations: Dequan Townsend
Punishment: 6-Month Suspension

Furosemide – Used as a Diuretic, which will help the body produce more urine. This would help an athlete hide potential doping evidence. Listed as a Masking Agent.
USADA Violations: Khalid Taha, Melissa Gatto Regonha, Azunna Anyanwu, Carls John De Tomas, Jennifer Maia
Punishment: 6-Month to 1-Year Suspension

Growth HormonehGHGHRP-6 & GHRP-2, Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 – Stimulates growth of bones, muscles, and tissues.
USADA Violations: Gilbert Melendez, Oskar Piechota, Chad Mendes, George Sullivan, Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic
Punishment: 1-Year to 2-Year Suspension

GW1516 – “Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta (PPAR) agonist which binds to those receptors. This means the activity in the gene is changed, causing a shift in how energy is put out. This translates into an ability to push harder and longer when it comes to endurance, without becoming winded.” USADA also notes there are no legal means of obtaining GW1516 as it is not produced for human use.
USADA Violations: Vince Murdock
Punishment: 20-Month Suspension

Higenamine – Pre-workout used for increasing heart contractions and speeding up the heart rate.
USADA Violations: Jake Collier
Punishment: 10-Month Suspension

Hydrochlorothiazide – Used as a Diuretic, which will help the body produce more urine. This would help an athlete hide potential doping evidence. Listed as a Masking Agent.
USADA Violations: Priscila Cachoeira, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Junior Dos Santos, Raphael Pessoa
Punishment: 6-Month to 1-Year Suspension.

Ibutamoren – Increase muscle mass, strength, fat burning, and sleep quality, according to Muscle Maker.
USADA Violations: Yoel Romero
Punishment: 6-Month Suspension

Ipamorelin – Peptide hormone which leads to growth hormone. Stimulates the growth of bones, muscles, and tissues.

Punishment: 2-Year Suspension

LGD-4033 – Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs). Increase muscle mass, strength, and tissue growth, without the anabolic steroid side-effect of tissue growth on the skin or liver.
USADA Violations: Eduarda Neves Santanna, Walt Harris
Punishment: 4-Month to 1-Year Suspension

Meldonium – Increase endurance. The body can carry more oxygen. Used by Soviet soldiers.
USADA Violations: Abdul-Kerim Edilov, and two other fighters with names redacted
Punishment: 15 Month Suspension

Mesterolone, Methyltestosterone, and Metandienone – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength.
USADA Violations: Oleksandr Doskalchuk, Jesse Ronson, Felipe Olivieri, Anderson Silva, Ruslan Magomedov
Punishment: 14-Month Suspension.

Norandrosterone – Molecule found in urine that is caused by the ingestion of Nandrolone (Anabolic steroid).
USADA Violations: Ricardo Abreu, Isabela de Padua
Punishment: 2 Year Suspension.

Ostarine – Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs). Increase muscle mass, strength, and tissue growth, without the anabolic steroid side-effect of tissue growth on the skin or liver. Not approved for human use.
USADA Violations: Andre Ewell, Marc-Andre Barriault, Lara Fritzen Procopio, Sean O’Malley, Amanda Ribas, Nicco Montano, Marvin Vettori, Augusto Mendes, Polo Reyes, Josh Barnett, Zubaira Tukhugov, Ruslan Magomedov, Jim Wallhead, Tom Lawlor, Tim Means, Guido Cannetti, Carlos Diego Ferreira, Rachael Ostovich, Ovince Saint Preux, Thibault Gouti, Diego Sanchez
Punishment: 6-Month to 2-Year Suspension

Stanozolol – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength.
USADA Violations: Erik Koch, Jessica Penne, Istela Iane Nunes Souza, Sarah Frota Lima, Mairbek Taisumov, Amanda Lemos, Carlos Felipe, Viscardi Andrade, Jorge Gonzalez Villa
Punishment: 6-Month to 2-Year Suspension

Tamoxifen – Estrogen Blocker. Used by steroid users to treat gynecomastia which is an increase in estrogen due to PED usage.
USADA Violations: Abu Azaitar, John Allan Arte, Adam Hunter
Punishment: 7-Month to 2-Year Suspension

Testosterone – Increases testosterone. An increase in testosterone will, according to WebMD, “enhance athletic performance, build muscle, reduce body fat, increase energy, keep red blood cells healthy.”
USADA Violations: Ben Rothwell
Punishment: 2-Year Suspension

Trenbolone – Anabolic-androgenic steroid used to increase muscle mass and strength.
USADA Violations: Fabricio Werdum
Punishment: 2-Year Suspension
