The MMASucka crew, Frazer Krohn and Tim Wheaton are back this week to review UFC 266 as well as the blockbuster heavyweight fight between Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk.
UFC 266 Review Podcast, Joshua vs. Usyk and More
Joshua vs. Usyk
A huge heavyweight fight for three of the four belts went down this weekend which saw Anthony Joshua face off against the undefeated former cruiserweight king, Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian defeated the Brit (in Britain it’s worth noting) by unanimous decision, 117-112, 116-112, and 115-113. The concerning thing is that judge Howard Foster had given Joshua the first two rounds, which he clearly lost.
On the podcast, the guys chat about what could be next for either man, with Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder set to clash in their trilogy bout on October 9th. The winner of Fury/Wilder will likely want to challenge Usyk for the chance to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. However, it was revealed on fight night that Anthony Joshua’s contract had a rematch clause, meaning that, if activated, we’ll see Joshua/Usyk 2 next.
UFC 266
We summed up the main takeaways in a recent piece, however, the podcast crew chat through the main talking points of the card itself. They give a technical breakdown of the UFC 266 main event between Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega where leg kicks and the submissions are discussed at length. The discussion comes up as to whether Brian Ortega is actually elite and whether he can hang at the top of the 145lbs division.
The UFC 266 co-main event saw Valentina Shevchenko dominate Lauren Murphy to a fourth-round TKO. There was little to discuss on the actual fight as Shevchenko dominated throughout. The main talk was regarding who’s next for ‘The Bullet’ and go in-depth on whether Amanda Nunes should be next. They discuss how a third match-up might play out, if Nunes has actually improved since their last bout and whether her size and power would just be too much for Shevchenko.
The crew also chat about what could be next for Nick Diaz following his loss to Robbie Lawler, whether a ‘legends league’ could work in the UFC and if Nick Diaz actually has good MMA cardio.
