Headlining the six-fight kickboxing card is a highly anticipated bout for the inaugural ONE kickboxing featherweight strap between legendary kickboxer and Muay Thai artist Giorgio Petrosyan (104-2-2 2NC) and Thailand’s own Superbon Banchamek (111-34). The Armenian-Italian Petrosyan is known as one of the best kickboxers on the planet and has shown that in ONE Championship, as he won the 2019 ONE kickboxing World Grand Prix. In his last bout, he earned a convincing decision win over Davit Kiria at ONE Championship: Fists of Fury earlier this year. Nicknamed “The Doctor”, Petrosyan is best described as a technical genius who excels at making his opponents miss. Also, he has not lost a bout since 2013.
However, he will have his work cut out for him with the always entertaining, Superbon. As a veteran of nearly 150 pro kickboxing bouts, the 31-year-old is as experienced as they come. After edging out a victory in his trilogy bout with Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong nearly 15 months ago, he returns to ONE Championship on Friday. Whatever the outcome of this bout ends up being, it will without a doubt be fireworks.
In the co-main event, a quarterfinal bout in the ONE Championship featherweight kickboxing Grand Prix takes place between Marat Grigorian (64-11-1) and Andy Souwer (161-21-1). The Armenian-born Belgian-raised Grigorian is the former Glory kickboxing lightweight champion. He is on a five-fight win streak, including back-to-back knockout victories. In his last bout, which was his ONE debut, he finished Ivan Kondratev with a left hook to the body. Some notable names Grigorian has wins over are Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, Superbon Banchamek, and Jomthong Chuwattana.
Tenured Dutch kickboxing veteran Andy Souwer looks to spoil Grigorian’s hopes of advancing to the semifinals on Friday morning. Souwer steps in coming off a huge win over Zhang Chunyu at ONE Championship: Big Bang that ended his four-fight skid. The 38-year-old is a veteran of nearly 200 pro combat sports bouts and made his pro kickboxing debut in 1999. After a rejuvenating win, the longtime training partner of Jose Aldo looks to go toe-to-toe with Grigorian and fans will be in for a treat.
Some other notable names on the card include former Glory Kickboxing lightweight champion and multiple-time Glory Kickboxing tournament winner Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong (125-32-5) and eight-time ONE Championship veteran Samy Sana (135-14-2).
