Fury Pro Grappling, the submission grappling subsidiary of CFFC, caps of its inaugural year of action with what some consider to be one of the most stacked cards in submission grappling history. Fury Pro Grappling 3 goes down tonight live from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The main event features rising BJJ superstar Danielle Kelly facing off against top UFC strawweight contender Carla Esparza. Originally set to face UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, Kelly has been the face of Fury Pro Grappling as the organization has gotten started, winning bouts in both of its previous events. Tonight, she will face Esparza, who has rattled off five wins in a row in the UFC due in large part to her wrestling-heavy skillset.
The co-main event features undefeated UFC welterweight contender and Philadelphia native Sean Brady taking on one of the best BJJ competitors in the world in Craig Jones. Brady is known for his relentless pressure on the ground, which has led him into the top ten of the UFC’s welterweight rankings. That will be put to the test against the Australian former Submission Underground champion Jones, who has won his last eight matches across four different submission grappling promotions.
Another decorated BJJ competitor takes center stage earlier on the main card when Nick Rodriguez, also known as Nicky Rod, faces Bellator heavyweight contender Steve Mowry. The Renzo Gracie-trained Rodriguez has a strong wrestling base that helped him win the ADCC North American Trials in 2019 as a blue belt, while Mowry has won six of his ten MMA bouts by submission.
The card is littered with matchups between current UFC fighters, including Joe Solecki vs. the legendary Donald Cerrone, Billy Quarantillo vs. UFC Hall of Famer Clay Guida, Chase Hooper vs. Renato Moicano, welterweight contender Neil Magny vs. Joaquim Silva, and Phil Hawes vs. TUF 28 alum Andre Petroski.
Elsewhere, UFC fighters take on previous Fury Pro Grappling winners as flyweight contender Gillian Robertson faces Chrissy Briggs and the always-talkative Kevin Holland grapples Kody Hamrah. Moreover, two other UFC fighters will battle current CFFC fighters when Philip Rowe goes against Jonathan Piersma and “Bruce Leeroy” Alex Caceres tests himself against Eddy Torres, who was supposed to fight for the CFFC featherweight championship at CFFC 104.
MMA Sucka has fight fans covered with Fury Pro Grappling 3 results, with the card starting with three preliminary card matches on the UFC’s YouTube page at 7:00pm ET, leading into the main card at 7:30pm ET on UFC Fight Pass.
