Vitor Belfort will take on Chad Dawson at Triller’s TRIAD II, however, the former UFC champion has his sights set on a future opponent — Tommy Fury.
Belfort doesn’t think Fury should be focused on the ultra-popular Jake Paul, instead should be looking to fight a real fighter.
“I will fight him anytime,” Belfort told theScore. “Tommy Fury, it’s a shame you were going to fight Jake Paul. Fighting a YouTuber is a shame. (Paul) is a piece of shit. Not as a person —as a fighter. Tommy Fury, I’m up to the challenge,” he continued. “Let’s make this duel.”
The 44-year-old is coming off a TKO win over Evander Holyfield in an exhibition bout in Triller Fight Club Legends 2 back in September.
Fury’s last bout was in August, when he earned a unanimous decision against Anthony Taylor. He is 7-0 in his professional boxing career. He was expected to take on Paul last December, however a rib injury forced him out of action. His eyes are still on that monumental pay-day against the YouTube sensation, despite Belfort wanting a piece of the Brit.
“So as soon as I can get the all clear for the rib and can go back sparring again and all that other stuff I’ll be straight back in the ring,” he said to Marca Boxing. “Because I’ve got some seriously itchy knuckles.”
“I’ve got one more scan to go, one more MRI to do with the rib to see where that’s at and to see where how much it’s healed and how much we’ve got left.
“And then after that I can jump straight back into the ring because I’ve already been keeping the weight down, raring to go.”
Belfort will take on Dawson at TRIAD II and the main event is a nine-round heavyweight clash between Dos Santos and Pulev on February 26, live on Fite TV.
