Cage Warriors 136 Preview

Cage Warriors is set to return this weekend with a doubleheader, with the latter being Cage Warriors 136: Mélan vs. Duncan on Saturday night at the BEC Arena in Manchester, England. The card will begin on April 2nd at 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT and will be available for live streaming through UFC Fight Pass.

Following Cage Warriors 135, which will happen this Friday, is another banger of a fight card in Cage Warriors 136. The Cage Warriors Middleweight Championship belt will be on the line between the current champion in the Ivory Coast’s Djati Mélan (8-0) and England’s very own Christian Leroy Duncan (5-0). The co-main event will feature a high-stakes flyweight matchup between Gerardo Fanny (11-2) and Aaron Aby (12-4-1).

Cage Warriors 136 Main Event – Mélan vs. Duncan

The current Cage Warriors middleweight champion Mélan fights out of the Kongo Smashing Club in Paris, where current Bellator fighter Cheick Kongo (31-11-2) also trains. Mélan is coming off of a win that allowed him to capture the title from the former champion Matthew Bonner (10-7-1) back at Cage Warriors 131 via unanimous decision. Prior to his championship bout, Mélan was on a seven-fight win streak. Standing on the other side of the cage will be the 26-year-old Christian Leroy Duncan, who is making a meteoric rise in the promotion. Duncan has finished four out of his six wins by KO/TKO and one by submission. Duncan also has an impressive amateur record at 17-6. With the belt on the line, it will be fun to see these two talented middleweights show off their skills on Saturday night.

Cage Warriors 136 Co-Main Event – Fanny vs. Aby

The co-main event featuring Fanny and Aby will also be a fun one to watch. Fanny is currently on a two-fight win streak, with his most recent win coming via TKO against Liam Gittins (7-4) back at Cage Warriors 128. Gittins will also be a fighter featured on the CW 135 card a day prior. Fanny has finished nine of his opponents in his 11 pro wins, with one of them being a highlight-reel flying knee knockout against Connor Hignett (9-7) at Cage Warriors 125. Aby, on the other hand, rebounded from a loss in his last outing. Prior to his most recent loss, he was actually riding a four-fight win streak, with one of the wins coming against the aforementioned Hignett via split decision. Most of Aby’s wins have come by decision, but he has submitted four of his opponents in his 12 wins.

Rest of the Card

The main card will feature another three fights. El Hadji Ndiaye (4-0) will be facing off against Adam Cullen (3-0) at lightweight. Ndiaye is most recently coming off of a second-round ground and pound victory against Danny Blundell (5-2) under the MTK MMA promotion. England’s Cullen stands at 6’0 tall and has finished all of his three professional bouts via rear-naked choke. During his 5-3 amateur career, three of his five wins have come by either ground and pound or kimura. Cullen will most likely look to take this fight to the ground to establish his dominance.

Reece McEwan (3-1) vs. Sam Spencer (6-2) is also featured on the main card at bantamweight. McEwan is coming off of his first professional loss, but before that, he was on a three-fight win streak where he had finished all of his opponents. Spencer, on the other hand, is coming off of a three-year layoff. His last bout came about in May 2020 where he defeated Ryan Holdham (4-1) via KO/TKO in 37 seconds.

Jack Eglin (2-0) will be fighting Luke Riley (2-0) at bantamweight to start off the main card. This will be a fight to watch as the young guns look to make a name for themselves. Eglin has finished his two professional bouts via rear-naked choke and via ground and pound. On the other hand, Riley has finished both of his opponents in the first round via TKO. Eglin seems to have a strong ground game while Riley seems to be more of a standup fighter. These young fighters may also have other tricks up their sleeve that they may pull out Saturday night to impress the BEC Arena crowd.

On the prelims, other intriguing matchups include Daan Duijs (7-1) vs. Josh Reed (12-6) at bantamweight and Dylan Hazan (7-0) vs. Raymison Bruno (12-3) at flyweight.

The previously-mentioned fighters and so many others will be featured on this action-packed Saturday night that fans will not want to miss. MMA Sucka will be providing live results along the way.
