The UFC is set to put on an interim flyweight title fight between former champion, Brandon Moreno and top contender, Kai Kara-France. The targetted date for the bout is July 30th at UFC 277 and was first reported by Ariel Helwani. The reason behind conducting an interim title fight is due to the current champion, Deiveson Figueiredo suffering from an injured finger.
UFC 277 to Host Interim Flyweight Title bout between Kai Kara France and Brandon Moreno
The announcement comes on the back of an impressive performance last time out from Kara-France. Competing in a rematch against Askar Askarov at UFC on ESPN 33, Kara-France narrowly outpointed the Russian, handing him his first professional loss. The New Zealander is currently enjoying an impressive three-fight winning run, including a knockout victory over former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt. Ranked #2 in the flyweight division, it won’t be long until Kara-France gets his shot at gold. He originally wanted the champion himself but may have to settle for an interim shot before getting his chance at the undisputed belt.

Moreno, on the other hand, is coming off a loss to the current champion. He partook in an epic three-fight series with Figueiredo, drawing one, winning one and losing the most recent fight. The fourth fight between the two makes a lot of sense, however, with the champion’s injury, Moreno is looking to stay active and compete for interim gold in July.
The two men met previously at UFC 245, with the Mexican, Moreno coming away with a three-round decision victory. If the fight goes ahead, expect a very different fight, however, as both men’s games have evolved massively since that bout and are improved fighters.
