On Friday, ONE Championship announced the first of two ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix semifinal bouts will take place at ONE 161: Moraes vs. Johnson II on Friday, August 26.
ONE Adds Rodtang vs. Michael To ONE 161
ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon will meet Savvas Michael in U.S. primetime from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The incredible tournament kicked off at ONE 157 this past May with both men scoring dominant unanimous decision victories.
Michael defeated Amir Naseri with one of his most sterling performances to date. The Cypriot outstruck Naseri in each of the three rounds, never allowing his opponent to gain the upper hand.
Rodtang was under the microscope for his clash with Jacob Smith, but the king of the flyweight division reigned supreme with a brutalizing performance. The Thai star was never in trouble and cruised to victory.
“The Iron Man” continues his bid for another jewel to add to his crown, but it does not come without risk.
Should Rodtang lose at any point, the tournament victor will secure a guaranteed shot at the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship in the future.
On the opposing side of the bracket, Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Walter Goncalves advanced to set up their semifinal bout. The promotion has not confirmed a date for that matchup as of yet.
Rodtang vs. Michael bolsters the ONE 161 card with Adriano Moraes vs. Demetrious Johnson II main eventing the evening. Although only two bouts have been confirmed, the event looks to be shaping up to be a stacked event for the U.S. primetime audience.
