Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz Verbally Agreed for UFC 279

The fight that many have been talking about and the fight that many have asked for is verbally agreed to. Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz will throw down in the main event of UFC 279, going down on September 10th in a non-title five-rounder. After a lot of back and forth, Nate Diaz will finally fight out his UFC contract. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

Khamzat Chimaev

Chimaev is undefeated at 11-0, of which 10 have come via finish. The only fight that went the distance is his fight of the year contender against Gilbert Burns in April. Prior to this, he dominated each and every UFC opponent he faced, going 4-0. ‘Borz’ outlanded his first four opponents 224 – 2. Last time out, against Gilbert Burns there is little doubt that Chimaev was certainly tested. Burns was able to rock Chimaev on multiple occasions but the Swedish native walked forwards, landed his own bombs and got his hand raised after 15 minutes.

Talking about the Nate Diaz fight, Chimaev commented saying: “I am going to handle Nate Diaz’s funeral with the UFC”.

Nate Diaz

One of the biggest stars the UFC has ever seen, Nate Diaz really shot to fame when he handed Conor McGregor his first promotional loss. Since then, he’s only been given huge fights and has become a legitimate PPV star. He headlined Madison Square Garden against Jorge Masvidal for the infamous ‘BMF‘ belt. The Ultimate Fighter season 5 winner has supposedly been asking to fight Chimaev for a while but now, finally, it seems to be happening.

Diaz has had huge contractual issues in recent times. He argued that the UFC hadn’t looked to book him a fight and that he wants to leave the promotion after his contract ends. UFC president, Dana White responded to these claims saying,I owe you three fights a year. If I don’t fight you three times a year, I have to pay you. How could I hold him hostage?”

It finally appears as Nate Diaz has got his wish and will be fighting Khamzat Chimaev on the last fight of his contract in a five-round main event at UFC 279 in September.

How do you think the fight plays out?
