On September 25, 2020, former United States President Donald Trump shocked the world, as well as UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal when he spoke about the fighter at a Presidential event.
“Thank you for being here Jorge, you’re really a great champ,” Trump said about Masvidal. “You’re great at what you do and it’s right up here [points to head] too. Don’t let anyone ever think it isn’t.”
Prior to his event on Friday, August 5, iKon FC 4 in Savannah, Georgia, Jorge Masvidal joined Emma Rechenberg on ‘National Report’ on Newsmax to discuss the former President and his thoughts on Trump calling for him in the crowd of that event.
“That was surreal,” Masvidal explained about Trump calling for him. “I’ve been a Trump fan for a long time before he was President, for numerous things he had done throughout his life. I got invited to the event and never in a million years thinking President Trump is gonna call me or ask me any questions or anything. Just that I’m gonna go there, maybe at the end of the show I’ll get to shake his hand or something like that. I never in a million years would have thought that in the middle of his speech, he’s gonna announce that I’m there and stuff like that. He’s calling me so much because I’m in such shock and I’m not standing up. I’ve met a lot of cool people in my life and I’ve never been starstruck. I’ve been starstruck twice in my life, it was Roberto Duran and Mr. Trump. My manager is next to me and he’s like elbowing me, ‘stand up, he’s asking for you.’ And maybe for like three seconds I was frozen in time and I was like, he’s really calling me. I finally stood up and that’s when he points me out. But yeah, it was surreal for a fact.”

Masvidal considers himself the “biggest fan” of Donald Trump. He explained to Rechenberg what made him such a big fan of Trump and it all comes back to the fact that he was a businessman before a politician.
“Before he ran for the race, I was looking at Trump and he said it right away, ‘I was in all these guys’ pockets, nobody’s in my pocket. I’m coming here with my own thoughts and ideas and I’m gonna bring this forefront to the table.’ And then he did just that. Everything that he told us he was going to do, he executed unless the Democrats stopped him from doing it or something crazy like that. But everything that he said he was gonna do, he did it. The Biden administration, the Obama administration at the time were mocking him, saying you don’t have a magic wand for the economy, you’re not just gonna come in here and fix the economy — he did just that, in I don’t know, like six, seven months the economy was already on a booming way. A year later it’s the best it’s ever been, two years later forget about it. We’re like in the golden era of America. And now, we’re seeing just how good this man was and that’s because I truly feel he wasn’t a politician. He was a great businessman that wanted this country to succeed and do amazing. I think a lot of the things he did was just common sense. Like we see with Biden, how they have this hatred with fracking, immediately as soon as Trump got into administration he removes all those bans and the frackers will frack and we’re suffering for it and the whole world is basically suffering for it from the mistakes that this administration is doing for it. That’s why I love Trump. He’s a businessman that actually puts America first.”
This past Friday, Jorge Masivdal’s iKon FC 4 went down and you can check out full results here.
