Combate Global returns to Miami, Fla. on Friday evening for a show that will see bantamweight David Solorzano look to extend his unbeaten record to six wins against Mexico’s Axel Osuna in the main event.

Combate Global: Solorzano vs. Osuna can be streamed on Paramount+ with the main card scheduled to get underway at 11 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. PT.

Main Event — Solorzano vs. Osuna

Solorzano should have himself a tricky puzzle to solve in the form of Osuna, who is a known and proven finisher on the ground, whether on top or bottom. All three of the Mexican’s submission victories have come by straight armbar or triangle armbar. Solorzano, however, is a proven grappler in his own right and recently competed in a grappling match with Peter Ishiguro that resulted in a time-limit draw. As a result, he may be able to stay out of danger and work his way to a decision victory, which would be his fourth straight.

Solorzano, “The Silent Killer,” trains out of Dragon House MMA in San Francisco, Calif. with a host of other up-and-coming regional fighters. Despite entering Friday night’s fight with a clean professional record, Solorzano took his lumps on the amateur circuit where he amassed a record of 2-6. Of his eight amateur fights, seven of them went to decision, and given his professional results in recent memory, a decision for either fighter seems to be the likely outcome. Similarly, Osuna’s only loss has come on the judges’ scorecards, dropping a unanimous decision victory to Junior Cortez at a Combate Global event in June 2021. He since picked up the first knockout of his career against Maximiliano González this past May.

Rest of the Card

Four fights will support Solorzano vs. Osuna on the main card of this week’s Combate Global event. The second fight from the top will see Mauricio Cubillo Fernandez (10-6) take on Leo Muniz (7-2) in the bantamweight division. Cubillo, who hails from Costa Rica, is a tricky submission artist who will be undoubtedly looking to get the fight to the mat against Muniz, a striker with a pair of knockouts in seven career wins. Moving down the card, Mason Iacobellis will be meeting Carlos Reyes at a 130-pound catchweight. Iacobellis knocked out Jack Girard at Fury FC 53 last year and will be looking to keep the good times rolling against Reyes, a fighter coming off a decision victory in his most recent fight for Combate.

Iacobellis vs. Reyes is not the only catchweight fight on Friday’s card, however, as a 110-pound catchweight bout between Mariah Castro and Lupe Mateo is set to kick off the card. Both fighters will be making their professional debuts. They will be followed by a flyweight bout between Mexican fighters Gerardo Graniel (7-4) and Santiago Monreal (6-3). Monreal will be looking to extend his recent winning run to three fights, while Graniel is seeking to build some momentum of his own, having dropped four of his last five.
