Tawanchai PK.Saenchai will defend the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Championship for the first time at ONE Fight Night 7, live and free on Prime Video. The talented 23-year-old brought home the gold at ONE 161 with a decision win over Petchmorakot Petchyindee. Now awaiting him on February 24 will be Jamal Yusupov.

In a pre-event interview with ONE Championship, Tawanchai remarked on Yusupov’s power. And he was also complimentary of the Turk’s footwork. However, the Thai star believes he is prepared to combat everything Yusupov has to offer, and he cited his fans as the reason he is ready to shine inside Lumpinee Stadium.

“What keeps me motivated is how I am different, how I am meant to defend my title. And I also don’t want to let my fans down. So I want to do my best,” said Tawanchai.

Tawanchai entered ONE with immense hype, and after suffering a close loss to Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong in August 2021, he rebounded with two impressive knockout showings. After regaining his momentum and taking home the gold, Tawanchai is once again in the discussion for being the best pound-for-pound striker on the planet. But Tawanchai does not feel that adds any pressure heading into his first title defense.

“I wouldn’t say that I am under a lot of pressure. But I will never underestimate my opponent and have prepared myself well. So I would like to succeed in defending my title this time,” said the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion.

The title win has also spurred Tawanchai’s physical training. Because he does not want to be a one-time champion, the PK.Saenchai Muay Thai Gym representative is adding some sport science into his training. With a clean diet and weight training, Tawanchai feels the best he ever has headed into ONE Fight Night 7.

“I feel like, right now, I am more physically fit. I am stronger; my strength has increased. And also, for the second question, the training period for this fight is much longer. And I did a lot of training. My physique is much fitter than the last fight,” said the 23-year-old.

When talking about how he plans to combat Yusupov’s explosive boxing, Tawanchai claimed to have a “secret weapon.” But more importantly, Tawanchai said his teammates have helped him prepare to deal with Yusupov’s power. Entering the co-main event, Tawanchai is relaxed and ready to deliver a memorable performance.

“I have faced a lot of heavy hitters in my life, and also, during training, I have trained with heavy hitters. There’s nothing to worry about. I am part of that. Also, regarding the differences between the ring and the cage, I don’t think there is much difference. I don’t worry about it,” said Tawanchai.

ONE Fight Night 7 emanates from Lumpinee Stadium on February 24. The action begins on Prime Video at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. The event is free for all U.S. and Canadian Amazon Prime subscribers.
