ONE Championship has added another World Championship bout to ONE Friday Fights 22. The event, emanating from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on June 23, is already headlined by the ONE Heavyweight World Championship unification contest between Arjan Bhullar vs. Anatoly Malykhin. On Wednesday, the promotion announced a battle for the ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship.

Interim Strawweight Muay Thai Battle to Take Place at ONE Friday Fights 22

Former divisional kings Prajanchai PK Saenchai and Sam-A Gaiyanghadao will meet once again in the ring in the co-main event. The two will compete for interim gold as Joseph Lasiri cannot compete due to injury. The matchup will be a chance for Sam-A to exact some revenge.

The Thai legend won the inaugural title in February 2020, adding to his already impressive legacy. After being champion for more than a year, Prajanchai stunned the martial arts community with an upset by majority decision. However, Lasiri would upset Prajanchai in his first title defense.

Not long after their bout, Sam-A retired. But the retirement would not stick. After two victories on the local Thai circuit, Sam-A returned to ONE in March 2023. At ONE Friday Fights 9, Sam-A took out Ryan Sheehan by second-round KO to assert himself back in the strawweight title picture.

The strawweight title tilt will add even more pomp and circumstance to ONE Friday Fights 22. The Bangkok crowd will see two of their heroes try to settle their score and set up a future date with Lasiri to unify the belts. The ONE Interim Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship will be on the line inside one of the most historic martial arts venues.

ONE Friday Fights 22 airs live and free on Friday, June 23. The action begins at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT across all ONE platforms. Stay tuned with MMASucka as more exciting bouts are added to the card.
