Jon Jones has pulled out of UFC 295 as per a statement released by Dana White. The heavyweight champ was training last night and suffered a pec tear during wrestling practice.

Winning the championship earlier this year in an extremely impressive display over Ciryl Gane, Jones was expected to make his first defence of the Heavyweight belt against former champion, Stipe Miocic in what many speculated could be his last fight in MMA. With the injury requiring surgery Jones will be out for an eight month long period according to Dana White.

Stipe Miocic has also been removed from the card of UFC 295 and it remains to be seen what the UFC plans to do with the former champion. While the card has suffered badly losing its main event, the damage done has not been irreparable. UFC 295’s co-main event between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira has now been promoted to the main event slot and a Heavyweight Interim title match-up has been made as the new co-main.

Sergei Pavlovich will take on Tom Aspinall for the interim championship in the wake of the injured Jones. This is a match up that fans have been clamouring to see for some time now as the two men are both the brightest prospects in the division at the moment.

Pavlovich was in fact supposedly the back up fighter for this fight and the last Heavyweight title clash and has won his last six fights via first round KO. Aspinall has been running through the Heavyweight division for some time now, making veteran fighters such as Marcin Tybura and Alexander Volkov look like amateurs. Possibly the most skillful Heavyweight ever seen against possibly the hardest hitting Heavyweight ever seen UFC 295 will certainly be one to watch.
