Some big fights are going down in ‘The Big Apple!’

The UFC returns to New York City, this time with two title fights. The light heavyweight title is up for grabs in the UFC 295 main event, with Jamahal Hill relinquishing the title earlier this year due to injury. Former champions Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochakza will square off for the vacant title.

UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

Since first stepping into the Octagon in 2021, ‘Poatan’ has been on a fast track to success. Pereira would dispatch current champ Sean Strickland en route to dethroning Israel Adesanya last year to become the UFC Middleweight Champion,

However, Pereira’s title reign was short-lived with Adesanya claiming revenge (as well as his title back) over his long-time rival in April. That’s in the past now though as Pereira has found a new life up a weight class.

Pereira rebounded in his light heavyweight debut, defeating former champ Jan Blachowicz over the distance at UFC 291. For his next assignment, the ex-middleweight king goes for gold in a second division.

Prochazka, on the other hand, looks to reclaim what was once his. ‘Denisa’ won the light heavyweight title at UFC 275 in a fight-of-the-year contender against Glover Teixeira. But, he wouldn’t hold onto the title for long as he vacated the belt because of a gnarly shoulder injury.

One road to recovery later, he’s back in action against the stone-faced Pereira.

Interim UFC Heavyweight Championship

An interim championship co-headlines UFC 295. Following Jon Jones’ withdrawal from his fight with Stipe Miocic, the UFC put together a short-notice bout between top heavyweight contenders Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich.

The winner may have to wait a while to fight the undisputed champion, but interim gold will be put around their waist at Madison Square Garden.
