Stay tuned here at MMASucka for UFC 298: Volkanovski vs. Topuria results. Be sure to recap our staff picks and predictions from Friday’s ONE Fight Night 19 event in Bangkok, Thailand.

Main Event

A thrilling clash will headline the night ahead between current UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski and challenger Ilia Topuria.

Australia’s Volkanovski targets a sixth defense of his divisional title since capturing the belt over Max Holloway in December of 2019. Last calendar year, the well-rounded athlete’s fifth 145-pound defense of Yair Rodriguez fell between two lightweight losses to Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski’s opponent, Topuria, gets his first MMA title shot since taking the vacant Cage Warriors Bantamweight Championship in the summer of 2018. The grappling specialist has yet to face professional defeat having won all 14 of his fights with six in the octagon with twelve by way of stoppage.

Co-Main Event

Middleweights Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa meet in a pivotal clash for the middleweight division. Former divisional Champion and former The Ultimate Fighter tournament victor Whittaker looks to bounce back after his title elimination defeat to recently-crowned king Dricus du Plessis. Former Jungle Fight Middleweight Champion and UFC title challenger Costa returns after a near-18 month hiatus where he lastly snapped a two-fight skid with a victory over Luke Rockhold.

Remaining Card

A welterweight matchup between Fortis MMA’s Geoff Neal and undefeated Ian Machado Garry will finally occur after their meeting was cancelled last August.

In a possible title elimination bout, bantamweight Merab Dvalishvili puts his nine-fight win streak on the line against former two-divisional UFC Champion and Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo.

Opening the main card sees a must-watch pairing between former LFA Middleweight Champion Anthony Hernandez and former FNG Middleweight Champion Roman Kopylov.

Staff Picks

MMASucka staff picks are composed of four of the world’s leading mixed martial arts organizations: the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the Professional Fighters League (PFL MMA), ONE Championship (ONE FC), and Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS).

  • UFC picks will compose main card fights ranging from four to six matchups per event.
  • PFL MMA picks are to be determined as card structures will likely change following last year’s merger with Bellator MMA.
  • ONE FC and DWCS picks will feature all MMA fights from the event with a minimum of three matchups.

The individual who picks the most victorious fighters by the end of 2024 will have a choice between receiving a custom-made championship belt from ProAmBelts or a detailed chain from Championship Chains. Staff picks in 2023 were won by Ben Jamieson with a record of 300-148.
