It was announced today that IBF, WBA, and WBO Super Middleweight Boxing World Champion, Savannah Marshall’s MMA debut will take place at Women’s Lightweight on June 8th. Marshall signed for the PFL last year and her debut has been long overdue.

One of the most exciting storylines for the debut of Marshall is that she has a long and storied history with fellow boxing world champion and fellow PFL star, Claressa Shields and with a win, the two women could meet in the octagon and not the ring. The two women have already met in the boxing ring twice, with Marshall defeating Sheilds in the amateur ranks and the American getting the better of the Brit in the pro game.

Shields is 2-1 in the PFL thus far. Her last victory was against Kelsey DeSantis, where she was very lucky to get her hand raised.

PFL CEO Peter Murray said:
Savannah and Claressa Shields competed in one of the most-watched women’s boxing matchups in history when they first fought, and now with Savannah’s MMA debut, the two are on a collision course for a rematch wearing four-ounce gloves and settling the score in the PFL SmartCage.”

What We Know So Far

We don’t know a lot about Marshall’s MMA debut as of yet, however, we know that it will take place at PFL Newcastle on June 8th, live from the Utilita Arena. This acts as a home draw for The Silent Assassin who hails from Hartlepool, a town in the north east of England near Newcastle.

We know that she’ll compete at lightweight, however, her opponent is yet to be announced.

We also know that she has been training alongside UFC interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall. This means we know that she is going to be getting legitimate training, with an experienced team and knowledgeable training partners.

The card will also feature the 2024 PFL Europe Regular Season, with Bantamweights and Women’s Flyweight in action in Newcastle.
