Canelo Alvarez has dropped his two cents on one of the biggest fights of the year.
It’s not championship boxing or a UFC headliner, it’s Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. News of the lucrative boxing match broke the internet when it was announced that the soon to be 58 year-old Tyson was coming back for one more fight, against one of the sport’s biggest and polarizing stars today in Paul.
Everything’s bigger in Texas and that’s what they’re looking to prove, hosting the boxing event at AT&T Stadium in Dallas in front of the fans and millions more watching around the world on Netflix.
Not everybody’s a fan of the much younger, faster Paul taking on the ageing Tyson, especially not boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez.
“Not at all,” Alvarez told TMZ, when asked if he had any interest in Paul vs. Tyson. “No, [it’s not good for boxing]. I think Netflix is good for boxing, but at that special fight, I think Netflix is doing something wrong there. I think Netflix being involved, yes, it’s good, but no in that kind of fights, I think it is more show than a fight.”
Paul, 9-1 as a pro boxer, called out the veteran of the game Canelo (60-2) following his latest TKO win in Puerto Rico. Just a week afterwards, ‘The Problem Child’ would change course for the biggest name in boxing today with ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.
For Canelo Alvarez, a fight with Jake Paul is simply not his cup of tea, at least for the time being.
“At this point, I’m not interested in that kind of fights,” Alvarez said of Paul.
