The interim title fight between Dejan Kajic and Jayden Martin has been scrapped.
Unfortunately, due to two fractured ribs from training, Jayden Martin has been forced to withdraw from his middleweight fight with the former BFL champion Dejan Kajic.
As of today, the promotion will be looking for a replacement fight for Kajic.
Kajic (16-8-2) is coming off his first loss since 2018. Mac Laursen halted the long-time promotional champion’s winning streak with a second-round rear-naked choke at BFL 80 in May. Before that match, the Universal MMA head coach was riding an eight-fight winning streak, with six of those coming from TKO stoppage. Kajic was looking to rebound with a victory in this match and earn a shot at redemption at 170 pounds for the title he believes is rightfully his.
Martin (3-1) made his professional debut in 2019 and has only fought four times, due to nagging injuries. “Liquid Steel” was hopeful to have his third fight in 2024, however, that will have to wait. The FKP MMA product is riding a three-fight winning streak, with all three victories coming via stoppage. Martin knocked out Luiz Guzman at BFL 79 in February in just 31 seconds and most recently, earned a second-round knockout stoppage against Christian Tremayne.
The BFL 81 fight card is shaping up nicely. In the main event, a battle for the lightweight championship will go down, as champ Rodrigo Sezinando takes on Navid Zanganeh. The featherweight championship is also on the line, as Radley Da Silva takes on undefeated American Drake Randall. The jiu-jitsu ace Nic Ouellet will take on David Moon and Josh Kwiatkowski will face veteran Drew Brokenshire. A female fight between Maria Demers and Mel Zeman is also scheduled.
